JPG to SVG with a transparent background

A JPG cannot be transparent, so a logo saved as JPG always has a white box behind it. Tracing fixes that. We find the shapes and leave the paper white out, so the SVG sits on any colour of page or material.

How to do it

  1. Use a JPG where the background is a plain flat colour, usually white.
  2. Drop it above. For a single colour logo, set Mode to Cricut cut-ready (one colour) and choose Dark areas.
  3. For a multi-colour logo, use Colour mode and check the preview for a background rectangle.
  4. Raise Remove specks to clear fuzz at the edges.
  5. Download the SVG and place it on a coloured page to check that no white box remains.

Test on a dark page

Place the result on a dark background. Any leftover white shape shows at once.

Multi-colour logos

In Colour mode a white background may become a white shape. Delete it in your editor with one click.

Or start from PNG

If you have the logo as a PNG with transparency, use that. It needs no background removal at all.

Questions

Does the SVG really have no background?

In one colour mode only the dark shapes are kept, so there is nothing behind them. Colour mode may keep a background shape that you can delete.

What if my background is not white?

Plain flat colours work too. Busy or gradient backgrounds are much harder to separate.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tracing runs in your browser tab, so the image stays on your device.

What does it cost?

Three downloads a day are free. Unlimited is $7.99 a month, or a 20-image pack is $6.99 once.
