TracecutConverter

PNG to SVG for Inkscape

Inkscape has Trace Bitmap, and it does the job when you tune it. We give you a fast first pass. Our tracer snaps colours and removes specks before it traces, which leaves you with fewer nodes to tidy in Inkscape afterwards.

How to do it

  1. Drop your PNG or JPG into the converter above.
  2. Choose Colour mode for logos or Cricut cut-ready (one colour) for a silhouette.
  3. Set Colours and Threshold until the preview looks right.
  4. Download the SVG and open it with File, Open in Inkscape.
  5. Use Path, Simplify (Ctrl+L) if you still want fewer nodes, and Edit, Select All, then Path, Combine for cutters that want a single path.

Fewer nodes

A clean trace has few nodes per curve. Fewer nodes means smoother curves and easier hand edits.

Use both tools

If our result misses a detail, trace the same image with Trace Bitmap and copy that piece across.

Ungroup if needed

Select all and use Object, Ungroup to reach each shape on its own.

Questions

Is this better than Trace Bitmap?

It is quicker for flat logos. For fine control over multi-scan options, Inkscape gives you more settings.

Will Inkscape open the file?

Yes. It is a standard SVG with plain paths and fills.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tracing runs in your browser tab, so the image stays on your device.

What does it cost?

Three downloads a day are free. Unlimited is $7.99 a month, or a 20-image pack is $6.99 once.
