PNG to SVG for LightBurn

LightBurn has its own Trace Image tool, and it is good. We built this for the times you want to prep the picture before it gets there, on a laptop without LightBurn, or when you want a cleaner start than the raw JPG gives you.

How to do it

  1. Use the largest copy of the image. A tiny logo gives a ragged cut line.
  2. Drop it above. Set Mode to Cricut cut-ready (one colour). It is the same single colour trace any cutter needs.
  3. Adjust Threshold until the preview matches the edge you want and the background is gone.
  4. Raise Remove specks to clear dust, then download the SVG.
  5. In LightBurn use File, Import, choose the SVG, then set layers for cut, line or fill and scale to size.

Check the imported scale

SVG files import at whatever scale the file claims. Always measure the shape in LightBurn before you burn.

Use layers for jobs

Put outlines on a cut layer and filled shapes on a fill layer. LightBurn lets you set speed and power per layer.

Run a frame first

Use Frame to check the position on the material before you start the real job.

Questions

Why not use LightBurn's Trace Image?

You can. Pre-tracing is useful when the source image is noisy, when you work away from your laser computer, or when you want to compare results.

Does it keep tiny details?

Lower Smoothing and Remove specks keeps more detail. Higher values give cleaner, simpler cuts.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tracing runs in your browser tab, so the image stays on your device.

What does it cost?

Three downloads a day are free. Unlimited is $7.99 a month, or a 20-image pack is $6.99 once.
