PNG to SVG for Glowforge

Glowforge treats an uploaded SVG as paths and lets you pick cut, score or engrave for each one. A pixel image gives you a raster engrave only. If you want a cut line from a picture, trace it first. This page does that in your browser.

How to do it

  1. Use a high-resolution image with a clear outline. A 1000 pixel wide logo is a fair minimum.
  2. Drop it above. Set Mode to Cricut cut-ready (one colour). It is the same single colour trace any cutter needs.
  3. Adjust Threshold so thin details stay and the background drops out. Raise Remove specks to clear dust.
  4. Download the SVG and upload it in the Glowforge app. The shapes appear as separate artwork you can assign to cut, score or engrave.
  5. Set the size on the bed, pick your material setting, and run a small test piece first.

Cut or engrave from the same file

A filled shape can be engraved and the same outline can be cut. Duplicate the artwork in the app if you want both.

Keep islands in mind

Letters like O and A have inner pieces that fall out when cut. Plan a bridge or use them as engrave only.

Photos are a different job

For a photo on wood, use the app's own image engrave. Trace logos and lettering.

Questions

Does Glowforge accept SVG?

Yes. SVG and PDF are the usual vector uploads, along with PNG and JPG for engraving.

Why did the app show my art as an engrave only?

Pixel images upload as engrave artwork. A vector file lets you choose cut or score for each path.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tracing runs in your browser tab, so the image stays on your device.

What does it cost?

Three downloads a day are free. Unlimited is $7.99 a month, or a 20-image pack is $6.99 once.
